Temporary

Neuro Stimulator

Abbott’s Neurostimulator delivers low-intensity electrical pulses to nerve structures to relieve chronic, intractable pain of the trunk or limbs. Its minimally invasive trial system allows patients to experience lasting pain relief before permanent implantation.

Explore Relief

Without the Commitment!

Abbott’s neurostimulation systems let you try therapy before committing to an implanted device. You'll be fitted with a temporary system using a small external generator hidden under your clothing. This trial helps determine if neurostimulation effectively relieves your specific pain. The procedure is minimally invasive and lets you experience the therapy's benefits firsthand before making a permanent decision.

The

Invisible Trial System

If your pain specialist determines you’re a candidate for Abbott’s neurostimulation therapy, the first step is a trial with their Invisible Trial System.

This discreet, external device delivers the same therapy as an implanted neurostimulator, allowing you to evaluate its effectiveness before deciding on permanent implantation.

Minimally

Invasive Procedure

The Temporary Neurostimulation System procedure is minimally invasive and typically performed at your doctor's office or a hospital.

Trying Neurostimulation:

  1. Your doctor will place temporary leads (very thin insulated wires) through the skin on your back. The tips of the leads are positioned in the area of your spine that coordinates with the part of your body responsible for your pain. Your doctor will test the leads to make sure they are placed correctly.

  2. The leads will be connected to a small external generator you’ll wear outside your body (usually on your lower back). The generator is easy to hide under clothing.

  3. In the recovery room, a representative from Abbott will program your system under your doctor’s guidance.

Your Procedure

After

Your doctor will also let you know about movement or other restrictions. Most patients can continue with their usual activities, with a few exceptions.

Things you should avoid:

Bending, stretching, twisting.*

Swimming or soaking in water.*

Lifting anything over five pounds.*

Clinical

Indications & Trial Process

Abbott’s SCS systems are approved for managing chronic, intractable pain of the trunk and limbs, including:

Failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS)

Nonsurgical back pain

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy

The SCS trial process typically starts with Abbott’s Invisible Trial System—an external temporary device that simulates long-term therapy to determine if a permanent implant will be effective. Only patients who report significant pain relief during this phase proceed to implantation.
